Paper's back

Greetings from Hollow Stone towers.

I stopped reading eBooks about ten years ago now. For a little while I was convinced they were the future of the publishing industry, and it felt like indie authors like myself were at the vanguard of a revolution in publishing. But it didn't take long for the bloom to fall off the rose, either for myself, or for publishing as a whole.

This is not to say that there's anything wrong with an eBook. Far from it; I've built a ten year writing career out of focusing purely on these little digital files, and there's clearly a market out there for people who like to read on their Kindle, or Kobo Reader, or these weird little ones that clip onto the backs of your phone that seem to be extremely popular right now.

But it's always felt a little... uncomfortable... that in my publishing, I am focused so firmly on eBooks, when I don't actually read the damn things myself. I don't enjoy reading an e-book in the same way. Maybe it's the feel of paper in my hand, maybe it's the smell of the ink, or maybe it's just that I really like owning a physical object that I can put on my shelf.

So, as part of a much wider rethink of my entire publishing 'career', I've decided to address that, by getting paperback as a much clearer option for my readers. I've been going back through every title, and slowly updating the files and covers for all of my books, and making them available both through Ingram Spark (which is the company that distributes books to bookshops and libraries worldwide) and through Amazon directly, so that you can order a paperback that will be with you before you finish placing the order, probably. And, now, you can order directly from my own webstore, which gives me the biggest cut of that cover price, which is nice.

All of which means that, for the first time, all the episodes published to date of The Sunset Chronicles are now available in print! Seasons 1-3 were already out, but now seasons 4 and 5 have joined them. As always, I've priced them as reasonably as I can.

What else? Oh, while I've been at the coalface of a full book audit, I've managed to get the preorders for Solstice and Eventide, the omnibus editions of Seasons 4 & 5, live on Amazon. They'll be launching as follows:

  • Solstice: The complete fourth season of The Sunset Chronicles, out September 3rd.

  • Eventide: The complete fifth season of The Sunset Chronicles, out September 17th.

And that's all the news that's fit to print, for now. Plenty more on the way, however, including some exciting news about some events I'm lining up in November, as well as launch dates for those all important Season Six episodes.

Oh, and just a reminder, if you've not yet checked out the free eBook of Bleakwood that you get, just for being a subscriber to this newsletter, make sure you do!

Until next time, happy reading!

Thanks

Paul, Cirencester
